Brendan Rodgers kann den Spekulationen um ein Engagement bei Manchester United nichts abgewinnen. Der Trainer von Leicester City gilt als aussichtsreicher Kandidat bei den „Red Devils“ – dort steht Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nach einem ernüchternden Saisonstart in der Premier League zunehmend in der Kritik.

„Ich bin hier als Trainer von Leicester, ich bin stolz, hier zu sein, ich bin privilegiert, hier zu sein, und ich bin voll engagiert“, sagte Rodgers am Donnerstag (zitiert via „BBC“). Er könne die Gerüchte „nicht kommentieren, weil sie nicht der Realität entsprechen. Das ganze Drumherum ist etwas, das wir nicht kontrollieren können.“

Rodgers hatte das Amt bei den „Foxes“ im Februar 2019 übernommen und holte seither 1,77 Punkte pro Partie. Der Vorgänger von Jürgen Klopp beim FC Liverpool besitzt noch einen langfristigen Vertrag bis 2025. Die Gerüchte um seine Person seien „frustrierend für unsere Fans und auch für meine Spieler. Wenn irgendjemand irgendetwas liest, was da draußen steht, kann das destabilisierend wirken.“ Der „Klatsch und Tratsch“ sei nichts, „worauf ich mich konzentriere“, stellte der Nordire klar.
